It was labeled "successful" in its 13th session. Would it be prosperous in its 14th? What do we expect from Shaam expo 2008?
On October, 13, 2008, Shaam expo website interviewed Dr.Mohannad Allosh, Head of Organization Committee, to shed light on preparations and expectations.
what is your new strategy in the 14th Shaam expo 2008 ?
Actually we have adopted a new strategy since the 13th Shaam expo2007 through seeking help from experts and authorizing the Arab Group for Organizing Fairs to mount expositions including equipment. We have started to concentrate on improving the exposition's content.
It is known that the ICT topic is momentous and Shaamexpo is the only event that attract a lot of people interested in this matter.
In Shaamexpo 2007, stands were divided according to specializations to meet the world Fairs standards to give Shaamexpo a position among world expositions.
It is also better to separate telecommunication sector from equipment one. Last year we cooperated with exhibitors and number of stands deserve to be at world expositions. This year, the distinguished stands are more and there are small stands to offer special services.
Selling market succeeded last year, do you expect the same in 2008?
We will expand the selling market area as there are few electronics markets in Syria. The exposition is the best opportunity for visitors to by what they need, and the experience of selling market in 2007 was fruitful. So, in 2008, we will offer further facilities to visitors such as carts….etc. Moreover, the Consumer Protection Society, as in 2007, will be at the exposition in 2008 to check selling and to protect consumers' rights including guarantee, prices and maintenance.
Last year the Telecommunication companies and Internet service providers increased while companies which offer solutions decreased.
Is this a normal development or recession in technology market?
It is a real problem to notice that telecommunication companies and service providers are increasing in Syria while IT companies are falling back .
The IT companies' participation in the exposition is very limited and they are small ones with an urgent need for encouragement.
Does the exposition's activities include symposiums and lectures?
Yes, experts are going to give lectures on up-to-date technology.
How do you invite businessmen, state men, IT Directors and specialists? And how do you evaluate the mechanism of this year in comparison with 2007 in this regard?
We addressed Telecommunication and Technology Ministers of India, Iran, Turkey, Egypt and Bulgaria.
We are looking forwards to enhance foreign participation to count Shaamexpo as the first in the region and the second after Gitex .
Among the world companies confirmed reservation in Shaamexpo2008, we can number Hawawi and Ericsson and other companies dealing with telecommunication and related sectors.
It is worthy to note that all world brands are taking part in this session.
Head of the Organization Committee said the exposition coincides with meetings of the Arab Information and Telecommunication Ministers to be held on November, 17,2008 in Damascus after experts' preparatory meetings.
On this occasion, a special stand for digital information and Arab content was set up in Shaamexpo 2008 in cooperation with the Syrian Information Ministry that begun to provide organizers with names of press circles to take part in the new stand.
"The 500 square meter-stand will be opened for mass-media and Arab internet websites" Dr.Allosh added, stressing that the exposition will be a historical demonstration.
He expected a positive response from concerned mass-media.
Important numbers in Shaamexpo 2007
-Some 200 circles including companies, universities and governmental institutes from 36 Arab and foreign states participated in Shaamexpo 2007.
-six halls and other two ones for registration and businessmen were at service of all.
-444brands specialized in the domains of IT programmes, computers, digital telecommunication were shown .
-15.000 square meter is the area of the expo
-200stands showing world networks equipments, applications, archive system, industrial software, controlling, counting, administration, telecommunication devices, design programmes, printing, advertisement technology by computer and data bases.
