SHAAM EXPO 2008

Since its beginnings in 1994, SHAAM Exhibition For Information and Communication Technologies became an annual tradition forming an important scientific activity for all interested in informatics and communications sector, year after year, SHAAM became one of the most important ICT specialized exhibitions in the region and the second IT exhibition in the Middle East region after GITEX in terms of its specialty in presenting the latest and the most important solutions, systems, software and applications etc… SHAAM is an important forum for information technology and an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the latest computer technologies and applications of informatics.

The 13th edition of SHAAM Exhibition For Information and Communication Technologies was held in November 2007 at Damascus fairground under the patronage of the Syrian Prime Minister and with the participation of 444 companies representing 36 Arab and foreign countries, 200 booths were distributed on an exhibiting area over than 15.000 sqm. The exhibition was visited by about 200.000 visitors, several official groups from Jordan and Lebanon had visited the exhibition in addition to the students from different universities and institutes.
SHAAM 2008: The 14th Exhibition for Information and Communication Technologies will be held from 12 - 17 November 2008 at Damascus Fairground – Syria.

SHAAM exhibition gains a considerable governmental interest due to the participation of all Syrian ministries and governmental foundations that work in informatics and communications sector. Annually it witness a good number of significant visits from ministers and directors of foundations, purchasing committees and decision makers from private and public sectors who visit SHAAM in order to get acquainted with the latest developments in informatics sector and to contracting with companies participating in the exhibition.

Syrian Computer Society (SCS) aims to follow up and push the communication and informatics sector in order to ensure the continual tie of IT interested and investors with the latest innovations and creativeness, therefore, it always seeks to organize an exhibition that reflects this interest, in addition to its aim in achieving a qualitative leap in both exhibition’s content and form in order to place it at the similar level of the International IT specialized exhibitions, for this purpose, the Arabian Group for Exhibitions and Conferences had been chosen to carry out this mission especially after their overwhelming success in organizing "BUILDEX": The International Exhibition for Construction which became the largest and the most important exhibition of its kind in the Arab Region.
Arabian Group succeeded in meeting SCS objectives in SHAAM 2007 in respect of occurring a change in both exhibition form and content. The achieved results were too close to the expressed ambitious in terms of raising the number of participants, increasing the exhibiting space, improving the quality of participation and their adopted ways of displaying products and services and the way of distributing participants within the booths.

Exhibition Objectives: 

  1. Contributing to achieving SCS objectives in raising the level of informatics culture in Syria and facilitating its diffusion and development.
  2. Providing the public sector in Syria (ministries, establishments, universities and research institutes) with the opportunity to exhibit their IT applications, and providing the research and development centers with the opportunity to exhibit their products and research results.
  3. Providing the opportunity for producers and distributors of computers and relevant equipment, software applications, accessories, programs and communication systems to display the latest technological achievements in this field.
  4. Providing the opportunity for the largest number of Syrians and visitors to view the latest development of IT and communications technologies in the world.
  5. Adopting and encouraging researches and studies in IT, through providing the researchers and developers with free of charge exhibit booths.
  6. Publicizing the establishments and parties involved in IT education and training.

The exhibition includes a sales hall where computer equipments, software packages and IT books are offered for sale at special discounted prices.
